The Vernon School District currently welcomes over 200 International Students from 30 different countries. We are located in one of Canada’s most popular regions well known for an excellent climate with hot, dry and sunny summers and mild winters. Our region, also known as the Okanagan Valley produces some of Canada’s best wines, as well as fruits such as apples, peaches and cherries. In the winter, sink knee deep in Okanagan Champagne powder in the second largest ski resort in British Columbia located just 30 minutes from Vernon. Our schools offer the high quality education that Canada is known for in modern well-equipped schools. We welcome students in our elementary and secondary high schools and invite students to learn shoulder to shoulder with Canadian students. Our program offers the best support for learning English in a community that is over 95% native English speaking. Vernon…a great place to learn.

Activities for International Students

The Vernon School District offers a variety of school electives and extra-curricular activities; such as automotive classes, textiles, art, drama, volleyball, basketball, school leadership etc.

Our School District offers a Homestay Program to give our International students a home away from home with measures taken to ensure comfort, suitable lifestyle and accessibility to school and activities within the community. Our Homestay families are chosen based on compatibility with our students and a willingness to help immerse their new family member in Canadian culture and improve their English skills.

Our city, Vernon BC; offers many community programs outside of school hours for an additional cost. Some of these activities include: competitive swim club, gymnastics, ice skating, fitness facilities etc. The Vernon School District – International Program provides plenty of activities for our students to build friendships with each other. We encourage our International Students to join in our monthly shopping, bowling and movie nights. Our program also enhances our student experience with larger trips outside our community. Our students have explored Vancouver, Banff and the Rocky Mountains, Edmonton and Victoria. We believe that our combination of education and adventures give our International Students a unique and exciting experience that is second to none and will create memories that last a lifetime.
